Having owned and flown light aircraft for a number of years,
Rob acquired one of the ex Mozambique HARVARD'S in 1992.
Known as the Texan in USAAF service, the SNJ in the U.S Navy and as the
Harvard in the RAF, the North American T6 was the most successful advanced training aircraft of World War II.
It became known as the "pilot maker" because, from the Harvard came pilots for the
heavy bombers and fighters such as the Mustang, Spitfire and Thunderbolt.
This particular example was built in 1951 and served with United
States Air Force Training Sqdn. in Germany. It was then handed over to
the new Bundes Luftwaffe where it served as a trainer in the German Air
Force until 1966, when it was handed over to the Portuguese Air Force
and used as a ground attack aircraft during the Mozambique Civil War.
This HARVARD G-TVIJ was completely restored and flown again in September,
1993 and today it flies in its original USAF colours.
